(OH MY GOD I HAD A FULL ESSAY. I WAS LIKE 2 SENTENCES AWAY FROM BEING FINISHED THAN THE PAGE RELOADED ON ME.)
I got so interested in 30 seconds worth of writing. I love getting invested in this kind of stuff.
(What happened?)
Why would the witches want to come to another world? Was it because of mass spreading disease, expanding territory, scarce resources, some sort of magic shortage, WAR?? That’s begs the question, can Witches go back? Do Witches still live there? Would they want to? Do they want to? There has to be a good reason why they would leave it all behind to go to a place that doesn’t like Witches.
(Kinda brutal but thought I would ask)
(Witch Towns)
Did witch burnings happen in the past? If so, why? Another thing I’ve just thought of was what “Witch towns” were for. Digging wayyy to into it, I think they were created as a place of refuge, if that’s the word. The fact that some humans deny they exist only prove they were probably shunned from society at one point. To have towns where mainly witches live only make it logical for them to have a “safe spot”.
(Silly)
Stuff like this would probably be found in history books (haha I just thought of Charm Studies) and if so, has it gotten mistranslated over time?
(Witch Culture)
In Syrup 2, Pastille gets mad at Syrup for picking fun at witch’s in a sense. He starts explaining that it’s insensitive to ask those types of things, but someone came before he could continue. It makes me wonder what relevance witch hats and other witch clothing has/had. What was it for? Why is it a sensitive topic?
(Aromagic)
What was aromagic used for? To assume this was thousands of years ago, most magic was probably used for survival, (unless Witches were a highly developed society) but when it comes to aromagic, I don’t have a clue. I’ve actually thought of this before, and way more in depth. I’ve thought that it was probably used to make witches smell more familier to hostile animals, or to smell similar to there surroundings. That’s the only logical reason I can think of to why it would even exist. What’s the point of magic that just smells good or bad in a time where living is hard enough?
(Other magic)
On the other hand, it’s easy to figure out what things like Light magic (Like Marzipan) was used for. Mostly for exploring caves, or wandering at night, I assume. Growing magic (Like Astragalus) would probably be used for quickening the speed of growing crops and other resources.
(Pastille)
In chapter 7 of Starry Flowers, when Periwinkle tells Pastille to explain his magic, one of the first things he says is, “Ever since I was young... it was clear I was, um.... "ridiculously talented", as they'd put it.” How did that happen? To assume Witches HAVE to learn how to use magic, how could he be born with talent? Was it just good genetics, or a miracle?
(uh)
More on that, how do witches figure out what type of witch they are? Are they born to learn a specific type of magic? Would it be possible for someone like Butterscotch, someone who’s specialty is in Transformation magic, to learn how to use, say, growing magic? Are they restricted to what they can learn?
I think it’s fair to call myself a lore maniac..
