these are so gorgeous, jeez... everything from the backgrounds to the poses and character interactions to all the little details like the designs on Suu's leg... they're really lovely!! i love seeing this pair's relationship, too :>
aw, thank you! ❤️ my tendency towards inconsistency is something i partially consider a fault that i've ended up mostly just -embracing-; with these two i've learned to enjoy every new picture of them being a chance to explore new things about them
the leg decal was actually something i tried on one of the feral suu pictures, and it was just 'blood'stains to match what Gaji's pants have, and i noticed some of the blobs looked like how i do butterfly outlines, and ended up with a new flair for suu
Hehe, stumbling things naturally can be so good, though, it's such a good feeling when you realize that some little accident ends up being REALLY cool ✨
oh, do you mind if i ask - are you painting these with pixel art tools, but just on a really big canvas? from a distance it's not obvious and feels much closer to a traditional illustration style, but the pixelation adds a cool "rough" look, and then there's also the nice dithering... it seems like a unique process!
i do them in aseprite with a large-ish canvas, around 450x800px, though i crop them all a little bit differently depending on the composition (edit - i should mention blade sight's resolution is 480x270, so when i started making these, there was a specific size i had in mind for what they should fit)
aseprite has some nice tools for dither gradients that i like to use. from there its staying in the color palette of 6 (with sometimes an odd extra) colors. the palette for the pink/blue set is actually another thing i'm inconsistent about lol
That's really cool! The limitations def lend to a unique style ~ you're really make 6 colors go a long way
