The thing you said in that thread about it being like 80% Linux users really rings true. Splintered into thousands of instances, user-hostile design, and the supercilious attitude. All fits.
It was wild the people responding who have apparently never encountered having to copy a Mastodon url, navigate to their server, and search for the person in order to follow them. That's... Pretty common, it happens when you're coming to someone's profile from outside Mastodon.
Do they never try to follow someone they haven't encountered on Mastodon?
