A lot of the inflation of iPod prices can be attributed to DankPods directly, but I feel bad for him because he himself has been deeply apologetic about causing people to get priced out of entering the hobby, but there was never really anything he could do about it. These days he seems to focus less on iPods and more on other related junk technology of around the Y2K era, perhaps in hopes if he stops talking about them the prices will drop. Also probably because he's exhausted the subject, honestly.

i'm not super familiar with dankpods specifically other than how he's got a cool pet snake, but it seems like you can't talk about cool old electronics on the internet at all without dropship hustle ebay scalper culture seeing dollar signs.

it's the new "as seen on tv" price hike.

'techmoan effect,' 'lgr effect,' et cetera, they just wanted to talk about shit they found cool on the internet and the shitty grifters came in their wake to ruin the hobby

(being fair with how many have been modded the availability of stock ones probably has gone way down)

Where I could grab a yellowed C64 and a box of unlabeled disks for five bucks, or twenty-five with a 1702 (The Single Greatest Monitor in existence, fight me)

I know specifically on his most recent video (on the GK Music "UltraPhones", basically a pair of sound-cancelling earmuffs grafted into a set of professional headphones) he apologizes at the end in advance, because GK Music is a tiny company to the point his pair came with a handwritten receipt, and he knows they're probably gonna get the internet hug of death after the video goes out.

back when I was getting into retrocomputers (circa 2008) you could go to a recycling shop in Myllypuro in Helsinki and they'd have a shelf dedicated to just Commodore 64s. I walked out with breadbin 64, c64c, tape deck, power supply, and necessary cables for €8 total

yeah, makes me sad for anyone wanting to get into playing with these machines nowadays. I'm in process of selling my remaining C64 setup to a friend('s mom), and even though we are going for under-ebay-price they still wanted to pay me €70 for an in-box system I paid €30 for ten years ago
