im turning into a reverse-ufo conspiracy theorist. there is some weird conspiracy between the government and the news in order to hype up the idea of ufo's and aliens being real, for Some Reason. we can guess at the reasons, they probably suck and are banally evil

its a coverup!! they are covering up something boring and bad with a sensational sham story!!

(or more realistically not even collusion or conspiracy. just. wishful thinking and hype-chasing and cherry picking on the part of news in order to get more money)

Do you have a link about the superconductor thing, that sounds cool (it is basically impossible for me to care about alien news I am far too cynical)

yep, you figured it out, the US military is desperate to keep a variety of options open for securing budget increases in a world where they already outspend china 10:1 on "defense" and can't come up with a casus belli that stands up to casual inspection to save their lives

The government promotes ufo theories because ufologists aren't taken seriously and if the government feeds them then they are significant enough to paint other groups critical of the government as similarly ridiculous by association.
