I love checking back on the list of longest-lived hoaxes on Wikipedia, because they keep digging this stuff up. The new record-holder was alive on Wikipedia for 19.29 years and only got found in February.
I love/fear these. George K. Broomhall, the Civil War general who invented cream soda, complete with fake citations, and now he's been scraped from Wikipedia and is still lingering around the internet.
And just think how many of these were corrected after the largest LLM training data sets were assembled.
