healthcare bureaucrat in philly, v adhd, orthodox jew, ect ect, im love my wife

took the new bike to the shop for basically an annual physical, largely because ya know that's what ya do with used bikes, but also because I now need a reliable mechanic and this was a job interview for the guy

I come in and act like I don't know anything, just "idk give it a look over". he shares that the tires are dry rotted and everything needs oiling (which I knew). I said "well maybe I should upgrade the gear shifter to something new?" as a test, he responded "uhh I would recommend against that, the gear shifters from the 70's were built well and only have a single spring, newer ones are worse in some ways" which hell yeah. he quotes me $40 to replace both tires which!!! what!!! that's nothing. they're out of those tires though so I have to come back, but he still oiled everything and tightened the breaks

I leave and the bike immediately breaks lmao. the peddles do not turn the wheal, so I take it back expecting to be upsold. He takes me around back with him and walks me through his thought process as he figures out the issue. He fixes it then gives the bike back. At this point I'm like "I feel like I should pay you for labor..." to which he's just "eh I would've been sitting around doing nothing, and you'll be back next week". hell yeah I will that rules this guy is so solid haha
