having grown up catholic: maccabees 1 and 2 are considered canon by the roman catholic church. 3 is also canon if you're eastern orthodox. 4 through 8 are considered apocrypha.
huh interesting! guess there's not really a spectrum of authority/cannon in Christianity. just so odd hearing someone talk about Hanukah as something that's as required as pesach or rosh hashanah. threw me for a loop lol
and as you know, none of Maccabees (or Judith or Tobit or I think a few others) are in the Protestant bible. so it's definitely a mixed bag haha

I'm just some random gentile, but I have heard about groups of christian who think Judaism has been set in stone since 30 A.D., so it's fine if they LARP as a jew.
I feel bad saying this though. Larpers don't deserve to be compared to bigots.
