i only got to visit la brea once but have been lowkey obsessed with it ever since. so many creatures got stuck over time that they can't even deal with all the bones they find. they are just constantly trying to clean up the like seven billion direwolf skulls in the latest inch of tar they're working through. who knows how much history is down there because they'll reach in and be like "got another complete seven-foot-tall sloth skeleton for you to spend the summer washing up, bob"

we went on the tour and the guide spent what felt like 45 minutes telling us about this and also that they are not pits they are seepages and also how "la brea" also means "the tar" so the name "la brea tar pits" is not only wrong it's redundant and eventually we left the tour because she WOULD NOT move on
