It turns out you can simply use chess pieces and some checkers as a Veney set. You can do this, for example, for reasons of "mass appeal." It's okay to do this. It's not selling out.
Self = King
Sword = Queen
Engagements = Checkers
Balance = Bishop
Cloak = Knight
Dagger = Pawn
Guard = Rook
Jutsu = inverted Rook
Lantern = lain Pawn
Ruin = stack of Checkers
(theoretically)
Feel free to swap the King and Queen. Free engagement could be a coin or something other than a red checker.
