A+ daf yomi today, love rabbinical literary analysis. love them being like "wait a minute if moses wrote the torah how does it say he died at the end." love the assertion that Job has to be real bc you wouldnt bother giving a name to a character from a parable. love the contrast btw this and yesterday's which was largely arguing about geometry.

Bava basra is my favorite part of the Talmud so far. 80% extremely confusing arguments about shapes 10% stuff like today and 10% pirates

an extended discussion of "if Mosheh put a Torah scroll in the Arc of the Covenant along with the Tablets, would he put it in like this, or like this"? truly this tractate is the Most tractate of the Talmud

Something that Hindus and Buddhists do right is that whenever I'm looking at maps for funsies (which i do often) and I notice a tiny little island or peninsula that has a weird or interesting shape to it, or an island in a big lake or within another island or something, if it's in a country with a large historic Hindu or Buddhist presence then 9 times out of 10 there's a temple built on that tiny little island or peninsula.

And like, yeah. That's right. There should be some sort of temple or sacred space on this weird little island off the coast that's too small for a proper human settlement. I agree. That feels correct. That is a good place to put a temple. If you row your boat out to that little island you can see in the distance then you totally should be rewarded with a nice statue and stuff. This is the correct thing to do.

It's become routine to see survival fundraisers here, as there are on other social media; and, like other social media, people bumping them because donations have plateaued.

Unfortunately, Cohost is deliberately designed to inhibit things from spreading. (The "we went viral on Twitter once and didn't like it" design decision.) Donations have plateaued because everybody who's going to see it, has. You cannot do anything to make it go further. And of those, all the people who can and will donate, have.

The limit of what your immediate Cohost audience can and will spend to keep you alive is just that low.

"distributed philanthropy is not a solution" is so apt. It just isn't tenable
