While waiting on the subway I caught someone staring at me, I assumed I'd been clocked or they'd seen my magen david necklace so I just ignored it

But then they pointed at my phone screen which ??? can I help you???

but then they mimed out pointing to their palm and I realized they weren't looking at my phone but rather at the fold of my palm as I held my phone

I showed them my palm and they traced out the line by my thumb and said something in mandarin, because I was in the midst of my German study I sleepily responded ich verstehe nicht which, didn't help, but he just gave a big thumbs up and went "good it's good"

so uh? that's a good omen I guess?

I understand that it's a nice accomodation due to the fact that as a hospital a lot of people here can't leave anytime soon, but it is still undeniably unsettling to hear over the emergency speakers "we will be distributing ashes at [location]" repeated thrice like it's a dire warning
