The rotating ignition lock on the blade is a big part of it— its a really novel mechanism that instantly makes pleasurable, tactile sense. I love the frame of ignition inside an interior chamber before the blade fires out of the open aperature, too— the way the blade “cooks up” from green to blue to yellow is so cool.
I love that it’s been with her since her very first scene, too. Rey’s saber hilt is built out of the tip of her quarterstaff, a weapon she already built (or repurposed) by herself. Its a connection to her past and her future! The lore that Jedi build their own sabers is cool, but I feel like Star Wars rarely makes that matter. My favorite saber, Ezra Bridger’s S1 blade, is maybe the best at this— that sword not only ends up with a great design, cool function, but direct connections to the other Specters— but even these little material nods put Rey’s saber above the rest.

Also, shouts to the cloth grip! Its WILD there aren’t more padded grips on Sabers. Come on, guys, what are we doing! This is your most important tool, make it comfortable to operate!
