as someone who grew up in chicago and now lives in seattle, a key thing i advise anyone living in a democratic stronghold city to remember is that we still have just as many republican politicians as we do democrats. it’s just that they can’t win running as republicans so they have to pretend they’re as leftist as possible. this will make city politics make a lot more sense

this is also why the california governor's recall race was full of absurd clown nazis on the republican side, because all the normal competent evil republicans already run as democrats. we even got a couple clown nazis running under the dem ticket.
Plenty of shifty people nearby but they are less successful at getting elected to stuff
