I remember shortly after 9/11 a roommate of mine (I was in art school back then) was reading and talking (a lot) about a Baudrillard essay which talked a lot about the short clips of WTC footage shown on TV ad nauseam had the effect of transforming the event into something more conceptual/symbolic than it actually was for those in the immediate vicinity. A distortion, giving a separate self-inflicted terror.
