but there's just something about the way this place works that makes it Different from twitter. i feel like it doesn't lend itself to ephemeral, off the cuff stuff quite as well.

and turns out if i feel like i have to put Effort into a post, i just don't make it. i just make a bunch of drafts that i don't finish

also idk if it's just me being a humble lowbie or a more generalizable property of the website but i feel like i get way less ~interaction~ on here. i think not having the numbers public is good but seeing people "like" my posts does kinda help to motivate me to make em

i suspect the less off-the-cuff feeling may be in part because hitting post takes you to another page and you lose your spot

what if there was a second button ("post (small)")

yeah i don't know why i feel so much more friction about Posting here than on twitter. i think it's a combination of there not being a dedicated mobile app and the fact that making a post takes you to a whole new page, i guess

fun fact: in the bottom right corner is a post button that doesn't change the page. It's what you have to use on phones but you can still click it on desktop

in reply to @corhocysen's post:

I think the low interaction is just that it’s still a new site in many ways. I think back to my early days on twitter or mastodon or google+ and it was like this for me. It can take a while to build a community on social media.

Profligate use of hashtags will help too, though there have to be enough people making use of the particular tags, of course.

yeah, that's certainly true — for what it's worth, that's how i found you and several others on here, as well! (either #gardening or #sewing or something)

but regardless of the reasons, and regardless of it being childish, it still feels a bit "is anyone reading this?" sometimes

in reply to @atomicthumbs's post:

ive noticed also that whenever i post in the headline field it feels too weighty, but if i'm low effort posting then just posting in the body is way better w/ the smaller text. plus posting in the tags is an even lighter post venue
