this went through a fair few iterations before i found something which kinda worked. originally i was doing this with mostly text instead of images but text is an absolute nightmare to get to cooperate.
a lazier, more bandwidth-and-space heavy version of this would just use straight up screencaps in detail tags. that's fine if you're self hosting maybe but a lot of the jank here is trying to trim it down.
anyway. this uses ravel as a backbone, because it's a convenient automation tool for detail and summary tags. it nests these detail tags in a div which is sized and positioned on top of a base image, which is in place to dimension the post properly. then, the summary tags are styled to span the entire image so you can click anywhere on the image. an image or two is slipped into the summary, 100% of its size for a background, a carefully calculated height% based on the root image dimensions for a textbox overlay image. it advances text by cropped text snippets such that it overlays the previous text snippets. probably forgetting something im tired its late.
anyway. rant time. rant 1: DAMN text resizing. no i don't want it to scale to the viewport. no i don't want to give it an absolute size; no i don't want to scale to parent font sizes. no i don't want to scale it to the first loaded font lowercase letter size what the HELL i want to dynamically size the text with relation to the PARENT. HOW is this not a thing in html or css.
rant 2: size sucked to get working. i don't know why and have different parentage for their inherited width. i ended up using calc() to
