one of the gaming channels i follow that only post every 6 months finally uploaded something today. it really does take me back to when i was a teenager with 0 income and 0 dollars just trying to find games to play or at least watch when i didn't feel like playing them (which admittedly is most of the time). i'd scour youtube videos and see weird singleplayer indie games made in GameMaker or MMF2, like Iji or Bonesaw or RunMan or Merry Gear Solid 2. it was kind of the wild west of indie games back then, especially compared to today with your Fortnites and your TF2s and whatnot.
honestly, after watching this video i was kind of tempted to script a Free PC Game Recommendation Video of my own but i know for a fact i would get bored of making it after a day or two so i'll just put a list here instead:

Knytt Stories Plus: one of the best indie platformers i've ever played. super charming AND you can make your own levels for it, which lends it maximum replayability. i've linked a fan-made modded version of KS that adds a brand-new level editor and several quality-of-life features (e.g. being able to zoom in the game window because it is extremely teeny on HD displays), and also because the site this game was originally on kind of exploded a few years ago, so.

Within A Deep Forest: from the creator of Knytt Stories, comes a fascinatingly charming and weird platformer where you play as a bouncing ball that can take different forms as you unlock them throughout the world. the controls are a bit oddball (pun intended) but once you get used to them you'll find that this is a quintessential obscure windows indie game. also the art is good as well
