question: has anybody ever come across proof of the claim that trans men overall make more than cis women? not in certain jobs or sectors, but as a group making more than cis women
context: so a while ago, an artist i follow claimed that they once read a paper that showed that transgender men, as a whole, make more money than cisgender women. i know that this can be true when you compare trans men and cis women in the same workplace (but is reliant on “passibility”, race, the kind of job being measured, and how long someone has been out1) but every single statistic i’ve seen measuring the average income of cis women vs trans men on the whole has shown consistently that trans men make LESS than cis women as a group — though the gap IS smaller than trans women and cis women because of (trans)misogyny
i have tried for years to hunt down this paper, and i don’t want to ask the person who made that claim if they have the source bc 1. knowing them, im pretty sure it will get taken as me trying to prove the gender wage gap doesnt exist/that i’m trying to claim “transmisandry”, and 2. this was years ago at this point and who knows if they remember saying that or have the paper on hand anymore, if it actually exists. my hypothesis is that we read the same paper (cited below) and they misunderstood it as meaning that the gender wage gap between trans men and cis women is the same as the one between cis men and cis women which was absolutely Not what was being said in that paper and as far as i can tell, is not true. what the paper DOES claim is that SOME trans men get paid better when they come out in the workplace, but again, it’s strongly mediated by race/class/stealth and the opposite can also be true (losing jobs/being paid less when coming out)
