been growing my nails out a millimetre or two while trying to fix my lopsided, torn-up ring finger nails through tips from that one @shel post about grooming yourself (mainly filing instead of clipping and using nail oil). havent severely picked at my nails or cuticles in a week and the thin, flimsy parts of my nails are ALMOST covered by the stronger top layer again. the main issue im having is actually filing my nails properly bc they’re so short i end up filing them at awkward angles and having a hairy, thin edge. i dont plan on growing my nails any longer than they currently are and im regretting not getting something with jojoba oil but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ theyre much better than they used to be!

update on this:

  • i really thought i’d despise the sensory experience of filing my nails enough to not be able to follow through with it, but ive managed to get used to it and figure out filing at an angle that creates less hairy edges
  • growing out the problem nails is going ok. left hand’s ring finger nail tore yesterday, hence the unevenness. right hand is like, 85? 90? percent there
  • nail oil was going good until yesterday where i realized my right pinky (and ONLY my right pinky????) was itchy and had some minor hives on it, so i’m discontinuing the oil for now to see if that’s the reason i’m breaking out like that. im so baffled as to why this only started happening 2 weeks after i started using it and ONLY on one finger when i use it on all of them, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
