i see cohost's lack of a mobile app being brought up as a criticism a lot but like the site genuinely works super well in mobile browser. everyone just assumes that its gonna be shit cause every other major website doesnt optimize for browser so they can sell you their app so you cant use browser extensions on them and block ads. but thats a problem with those sites and not mobile browsers. you can make perfectly functional sites for mobile browsers if you actually try

I feel like a lot of people tend to just kind of assume if there's no app that mobile web won't even be an option? Which I feel like, yeah, a lot of really bad social media mobile websites have trained people to assume it won't be an option right away.

I think the only issue for mobile right now is that the menu isn't collapsible and it takes up the entire front page. You don't get a first glance at the posts when you open Cohost

EDIT: THIS HAS BEEN FIXED IN THE LATEST UPDATE!

So far we enjoy the core principles of co-host however the lack of a mobile app sincerely hinders discoverability especially in a certain age group. Additionally your mileage may vary when it comes to the mobile interface, in particular the search and discoverability area is NOT fun to use on a mobile phone. This works great on our iPad though. Which in our amateur opinion makes the site not particularly great for us, as our business is discoverability.

We may not be your target audience as well which is fine too. We're going to give it a few weeks though and if it doesn't do us any good we'll move on to the next thing. No mobile app is going to be a primary reason at least for us. We've noticed there's very few comments on posts so here's to one users opinion. Feel free to chime in :)

i'd say you're doing it correctly! this is how an app would work, and most websites with fairly modern features, e.g. wikipedia would handle this right. i imagine cohost will eventually, but if it's even on their bug list yet it's gonna be low pri.

It's all use cases, tbf - for some people mobile is how they interact with social media, and so the lack of app is a genuine barrier. While the site "works" in a mobile browser, and I like this place a lot (more than the alternatives), I really wouldn't describe the experience as good. And that's fine, it's being worked on, but I don't think it's unreasonable for people to opt out until the mobile experience is better.

For those that are fine with mobile browsers, or use PC as their primary way of Doing Social Stuff, then this place is pretty great.

Progressive web apps are the best of both worlds without the cost and I'd love to see things move in that direction. You can get great performance, caching and a native like interface as much as people want. Some better mobile design would be welcome, but the web is a powerful platform on its own now.
