as a company we deeply believe that people should be able to run silly little joke brand accounts. obviously, this creates some potential for confusion, so we've begun rolling out our new Unverifiedā„¢ļø program to let users know which accounts aren’t real. unsure whether or not @Disney is actually run by the Walt Disney Corporation? just look for the badge!

Screenshot of @Disney's profile on cohost with the 'Unverified' badge visible. The badge looks like your standard Verified badge, but flipped upside down.

we’ll be adding more pages to the Unverifiedā„¢ļøĀ program soon! keep an eye out for more updates here.

FAQ

Q: how do I get Unverifiedā„¢ļø?
A: sorry, but by being you, you have already failed the first criterion for Unverificationā„¢ļø. better luck next time… I think?

Q: ok but seriously, I thought that impersonation wasn’t allowed.
A: not a question, but we’ve written the community guidelines to only ban impersonation with intent to harass someone, or which is likely to deceive others. @NintendoAmerica announcing the upcoming release of ā€œSex 2ā€ makes it fairly obvious that it is not the real Nintendo of America account. For one, Nintendo doesn’t even have the rights to make a new Sex game anymore; they lost those in the Rare acquisition.

Q: I’m a brand and someone is running a fake account with the username I want. how can I get that username?
A: sorry, but usernames are first-come-first-serve. if you wanted that name, you should have signed up earlier. consider @BrandOfficial, or reach out to us if you need help brainstorming alternate names.

Q: the badge is vertically misaligned
A: also not a question, also we know, jae’s gonna try to fix it tomorrow. css is hard.

And also can confirm: vertical alignment is hard and continues to be a pain in css.

in reply to @staff's post:

just FYI you can use display: flex and then use align-items to vertically align stuff however you want to. ive done this so many times that i can do it without google or the devtools flex picker lol

(this example uses align-items: center but it is ✨customizable✨)

"Reminder: if a brand or individual does not seem to be conforming to conventional logic ('fundamental laws of reason governing the Universe'), then by all considerations that brand or individual is not real."

Hi! We were wondering if our very real official, verified by a real tesla media department, account could get access to this system. We'll even make cohost front page of our Tesla entertainment system and mandatory for every owner to make an account.

In fact, we have an update going out RIGHT NOW that locks our consumers in their car until they sign up for cohost!

Glad to be working with you.

Our brand lives and dies by the positive feelings that our customers feel from knowing that we are 100% true and real to our word!

Edit: and its very important to us that large capitalist conglomerates know that the people know that they have power over us and our appearance.

I love thisssss But also small concern that at a glance, the unverified symbol could be confused for a verified symbol by someone who didn't know about this. I get that the inverted tick is part of the joke (and I like the joke and think it is Good) but maybe a cross would avoid the potential for confusion?

tbf i wouldn't assume this would be everyone's first instinct. if you're coming from twitter, then yeah maybe... but still. even i had no idea that was a feature over there until someone made a meme about it 🤷

yup! if a company arranges with an Unverifiedā„¢1 account to take over the account for official messaging, we'd be happy to remove it; also, if you suspect that an Unverifiedā„¢ account has been taken over by the owner of the brand without notifying someone, please report them so we can maintain the integrity of the Unverifiedā„¢ program.

  1. side note: I'm glad that we're all taking the time to put the trademark symbol on this, a very real trademark which we are going to enforce strenuously

big-name? legitimate? depends on how you define it. but Games Done Quick and Double Fine Games both have accounts on here which are maintained by official representatives of their brands.

still laughing about this, but also realizing this has me curious about a specific situation: how do you enforce the rule in the community guidelines prohibiting ā€œusername squattingā€ exactly? like, when payment is involved. the wording seems to imply only the seller would get banned, but they’d still get their payment (not necessarily money…?), and the buyer would still get the page name, so this doesn’t seem like a great deterrent. would you also ban the buyer to render the whole transaction moot? that feels like the only way to really disincentivize it

To the office of Jae Cohost,

I would like to formally request my fine organization receives this "unverified" honor in recognition of our hard work keeping the American people informed of important wildlife news and information.

Additionally, this may save some other office from having to figure out how to arrest a ghost for impersonating a government agency.

XOXO,
Teddy Roosevelt
