re: the pacing, Maddie talks a lot about how time Feels Wrong and I think that's what the pacing is meant to evoke -- this is not "real." this is dream-time. by the end, Owen is dying very slowly but exhibiting congruent signs of dehydration and suffocation as Maddie describes from her time being buried. time/life is not moving for all these characters/selves at the same pace. my interpretation of those final scenes is very much "Isabel is still alive, for now"

just my opinion, still raw and bloody from my own first watch! I was thinking a lot about the inhaler as a fellow asthmatic...but shortness of breath can signify a few different things..........

(also not to say you're wrong by any means, I am thinking of the pacing in connection with the part of the monologue where she talks about suddenly being 21 and I agree that's very much the kind of time dilation one can experience through trauma and suppression)
