So, it turns out he was right to be concerned and to raise concerns. My cats enjoy grazing on dry food throughout the day. The timed dispenser ensures there are regular deposits of kibble to keep it "fresh" for them. The timed dispenser has very little kibble in the hopper right now and so the dispensing has probably waned over the past day.

Stanley is now in beach mode. He thinks it's too warm. He and I agree.
It's very hot and the cats are hiding out next to the balcony door to avoid being blasted by the fans and AC I have running. A little afternoon sun hits these pads thanks to the west/south-west view.
