I believe it's important to realize that we haven't figured out yet how to handle people who do or say bad things.

Most are trained to immediately jump to the State to handle bad things, and I think an increasing number of us are finding out that's kind of a bad idea, especially in places like the United States where calling on a cop for any reason could involve in someone getting shot.

Then there's "cancel culture," which, from what discussion I've seen, is in a superposition of both existing and not existing, and while accountability is most definitely important in correcting wrongs and protecting communities, I don't see any understanding at all of how disproportionate the effects are for different people.

Someone on the fringe who makes a bad take that could easily be talked through is attacked with the same energy as an A-list actor who supports gay conversion camps, but only one of those people is going to have their lives destroyed. What disturbs me even more is that the people who brigade others are convinced this system works.

We don't know how to deal with this. We just don't. Society is not set up to handle this to its very core, and with all of us running as fast as we can just to stay in place, who among us is going to have the energy to figure out a solution?

Welp, time to ride a bike!
