I was talking to an art director and realized that a big part of the draw of generative AI for certain people is not what it makes but how they can treat it. Endless revisions, no clear goals, last minute changes, no pushback and no taste of their own to question the user's vision. They don't care that what they get out is bad (and honestly they probably can't tell anyway), they care that here's a machine that works the way they think artists should work - as extensions of their own will.

my ability to swerve Discourse remains unmatched in general but are people really getting bent out of shape over others doing the yinglet typing thing

I mean I don’t have any skin in the game over it one way or another because a: I can read it fine and b: I don’t do it in the first place but like. it’s not even the most annoying typing style I’ve seen in recent memory, when we had homestuck presenting 400 paragraph long dialogues in various states of readability or even l33t sp34k if you’re as old and decrepit as me

I dunno man, not to belittle anyone who does have issues with it but it seems like it would be super easy to block or silence people making posts that annoy you instead of calling for a Global Solution of some sort which requires a billion times more effort from everyone

Like 90% of social media problems could be solved if people got over their constitutional aversion to just blocking users they dislike.
