i love point and click adventure games a lot, but as im a fucking millennial and didn't have access to video games until the gameboy advance, i know there's a huge library of them that came before i even knew games were a thing.

unfortunately, a lot of them are not great, so i ask the residents of cohost, do you guys have any point and click games you particularly love or would recommend me try to play? i will play any genre of point and click, i just like puzzles and exploration a lot A Lot so i'd love any new things to pick up and try.

myst
anything by cyan, really
They are really cool games, they just drop you in and you gotta pay attention to the environment, notebook games

telltale games made a lot, a lot of games, all pointy and clicky
the sam and max ones ive heard are great, the first 2 seasons have nice remasters

still on a lucasarts kick? well, stuff like monkey island, day of the tentacle, full throttle, grim fandango, those are all classics

i myself should try to play more adventure games, play thru them puzzles

Are modern point and clicks good? or only old ones. I always wanna clarify if u mean point and click adventure games (a la king's quest) or if u just mean anything w mouse only based control scheme?

any modern ones are good too! having a mouse-mainly control scheme would help just so i dont have to finagle whatever the fuck a game decides is "first person controls" at any given time so to speak for example

Alright! if you haven't already Disco Elysium is a point and click game. you can control it with keyboard (technically) but i find its way easier and more comfortable as mouse only. But I'm sure you've heard of it already. It would require a big slew of content warnings if ur sensitive to anything, but I'd highly recommend it!

I Was A Teenage Exocolonist is a point and click game with some deckbuilding mechanics. its about the player character living their life from age 10 to age 20, and the development of their relationships w/ the other colonists and the wellbeing of the newly formed space colony itself. It also allows for the player character to be explicitly trans, and you're pronouns are chosen at character creation (default w he, she, and they, but u can go into advanced options and make them anything u want) this game isn't nearly appreciated enough imo.

World of Horrors is a point and click RPG inspired by junji ito. a lot of horror, as the title may suggest, lol. if any particular type of body horror especially bugs u it might be best to avoid. it covers a lot of ground. Its also a roguelite so it has a lot of replayability.

Sally Face is a horror point and click. Its probably the only one on this list I feel mixed about. But overall, I think I'm pretty fond of it despite its flaws. It's a supernatural mystery story, involving a haunted apartment building and something quite sinister going on in this small town.

Night In the Woods Is an adventure game, I don't actually remember if it uses mouse controls or not??? but i think it does LMAO. Its a really great game! i recommend it. Its mostly a slice of life/mystery with SOME spooky elements (but i wouldnt call it a horror) also involves a small town mystery, but its mostly about the interpersonal relationships of the characters. You may have heard of it before though, but if you haven't played it yourself I highly recommend it!

Death & Taxes An awesome point and click game where YOU are the grim reaper, but being the grim reaper isnt all its cracked up to be. its actually a boring office job. you have to choose whether people get to live or die, and the ending is influenced by those choices. Its also very repayable, and seems to want the player to play through the game multiple times.

Sorry all of them are not QUITE adventure games, I have perhaps slightly peculiar taste in games LOL. Hope any of these you haven't heard of, or might strike your fancy! let me know if any of them do, I'd be happy to hear it!

thank you for all of these suggestions! i have heard of some of these before but your testimonials do make me inclined to give them a try. i have started playing disco elysium but i got stuck and havent picked it up in a hot sec so i should try to return to it soon.

I really loved Creature Crunch when I was a kid, since it had a (very out of sync) Brazilian dub. Still love the art! You can get it in archive.org since it's abandonware, I believe.

Telltale's Sam and Max games are really funny too!

oh thank you for reminding me of the sam and max games! i wanted to check them out some time. and thank you for the other suggestion too! i think ive heard of creature crunch but only vaguely so im interested to give it a look!

no problem! I think Creature Crunch is really obscure but it was a small hit here because of the dub (it was included in a collection of pc games from a local newspaper I think? It also had POD and MDK which were rad) so I always want to talk about it ahahah

myst is a favorite in my family! (i am bad at it tho. LMFAO puzzle 2hard) also uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh uhhhhh i've played a few of the Nancy Drew games in college which i found fun; Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake, The Haunted Carousel, and the Curse of Blackmoor Manor! the others are probably also fun but these are the only ones i tried LOL
