im halfway through listening to the audiobook of the fellowship of the ring and i think it really says something about tom bombadil that basically no adaptation dares to include him lest they try to finagle the narrative weirdness that is a man nature god thing. not even ralph bakshi did so.
[in the council of rivendell]
"why don't we give the ring to tom bombadil so he can hide it?"
"because he won't care and will forget it somewhere."
