ok i'm gonna complain about something with productivity apps right quick. in reference to the fact im switching from notion to joplin, i mentioned that i tried out and looked at a lot of productivity software.

like i get it that some people need "distractionless" or minimalist everyday use software so they don't get bogged down in the functionality of a lot of stupid little bells and whistles and a learning curve, but so so many of these productivity softwares are like "oh we're here to solve all your problems and our built in ai will suck off you and your entire team, you scrumptious and smart business boy!" and it's all just uh... tired.

i'm the kind of person that likes all the "multitasking" functions i can feasibly use with the operating systems and software because i like being able to look at a lot of data quickly and see what lines i need to follow in order to get work done. removing functions aka "distractions" or hiding UI elements just so the overall look of my window is "cleaner" is just kind of annoying, and especially with not being able to exact a level of control over the software to add in some pretty common sense functions or turn off these auto hiding elements. even notion would try to unpin/hide the sidebar from me every time i opened the desktop app.

right now im staring at my joplin window where i have my program window split into 7 parts, each with their own function, each important to me being able to move around the software as easy as possible. and i like it! i will probably turn off one of these little sub-windows for regular usage, but i like having all these little sub-windows.

smarter people have said it better than me, but this feels like that apple-ificiation and minimalism of our modern age that is ruining it for the rest of us that have to be kind of maximalist in order for us to do our work and do it well. i would liken this to an artisan needing all their tools spread about their workbench in order to do their work, versus those living rooms that have literally no personal effects in it and thus feels soulless because they've been sold on the minimalist lifestyle into not "owning" anything.

i dunno. much to think about.
