probably my favorite thing about the basil rathbone sherlock holmes serials is when it starts with a card stating "the character of sherlock holmes is timeless" to excuse both how the following film isnt a straight adaptation of a a particular story but also how its set in a more contemporary for the filming time period, which will include things like airplanes but also a lot of fucking nazis.
