an image of a typical Pacific North West temperate rainforest, with ferns and other greenery growing on a mossy, fallen-tree-covered forest floor. The colors of the image are oddly tinted, as the photo was taken in 1973.

GIANT SPIDERS THE SIZE OF RATS πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

saw this headline out of context and went hell yeah, rad. Then saw a separate article from an england-based conservationist with more detail: the spiders here are fen raft spiders which are semiaquatic and small eat things living in the water (or dying in the water because they fell in and they cant swim)

they've been monitored by conservationists for a while since they need high-quality fens to live, and boy howdy do Many Countries love to demolish their wetlands.
The 2024 headlines relating to the fen raft spiders I believe are due to Chester Zoo (& also others?) successfully releasing captive-bred spiders into the wild population to boost numbers and genetic diversity.

anyways Aquatic Spiders :] !!!! Fuck Yeah!!! πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯
