on the internet, nobody knows you're a dog

warning: will incessantly waffle at you about myst, kreator, and an array of fish bothering games

so there's this Extremely Japanese series of games, Boku no Natsuyasumi ("My Summer Holiday"), each about a young boy called "Boku" ("Me") who goes to spend a month of his summer holiday with family in various Extremely Japanese locations - a farm in the countryside, a fishing town, if you've seen it in a Ghibli film it's probably been done

like I'm not joking these games are Miyazaki as HELL

the "point" of them is just to wander around and do things that a kid would do on summer holidays - catch bugs, go fishing, meet a local artist who teaches you to write haikus, etc. No pressure, no progression goals, just a little scrapbook that gets filled in with your adventures at the end of each day.

I love them dearly but also none of them have been released in English and I don't read a word of Japanese so playing them is difficult; the only exception to this is the spinoff Attack of the Friday Monsters (3DS, 2013).

UNTIL NOW

THERE'S A FUCKIN SHIN-CHAN TIE IN GAME THAT'S OUT IN ENGLISH, OF ALL FUCKING THINGS

I'm told it has a dedicated "get your arse out" button, in keeping with the tone of at least one of the things it mashes up
