i'm so unused to longform posting anymore that i'm struggling to come up with things to write about here, haha. twitter has so poisoned my brain that i try to narrow my thoughts down to tiny clips, which inevitably fall through some kind of shadowban bc i said a naughty word or whatever. it'll take me some getting used to again, but i'm going to work hard at it. o7
especially bc the "poison" description is entirely apt. twitter has become a festering hole of negativity and hate that constantly feeds into itself; fandom-specific, i've said for a long time that i'm always shocked by the disconnect between the "community" and the "fandom" for ffxiv. the community-- that is to say, the in-game experience, most of the players and most of the various linkshells/rp groups/fellowships are wonderful, hands-down some of the most fun i've had with other people in a video game. the fandom... is a cesspool. scores of antis champing at the bit to rip each others' heads off over perceived slights or for shipping the "wrong" thing.
this is especially disheartening right now because of the kind of ultimate "we can't have nice things" that dropped today: a marginalized creator attempting to make a compiled list of other marginalized creators that are safe to commission from (owing to their own dark-skinned character often being drastically lightened in commissions they'd received), and while there were some (sort of) valid concerns that were raised, most of the backlash was WELL WHAT IF SOME OF THEM ARE PROSHIP BURN IT ALL DOWN YOU ARE WORSE THAN HITLER KILL KILL KILL
i find myself hoping that this is a twitter problem and not a "fandom" problem, but it's so, so inextricable right now. twitter IS where fandom is. and god i hope the sane ones come here instead.
