i resubscribed to FFXI yesterday in a moment of weakness. i haven't started playing again yet because i wanna start a new character and i feel like i'll fall in to the quick growth cycle and i am WAY too busy right now for that!

I did get as far as the character creator though and wow, I forgot that they gave each race a little character intro with animations and personality and music. Pretty neat! I wish FFXIV's character creator had this much personality; I started laughing when the Male Hume got zoomies.

Hopefully I will be less busy soon... I've been working on some projects at home and it's been nice, the sort of thing that spreads out over a few days and creates some nice objectives every single day, but ... dang I miss NOT doing things! But at least doing things gets you stuff! What a push and pull, eesh

ive never played ffxi but man it always makes me think of the old f2p mmorpgs i used to play from time to time (shoutouts to mabinogi specifically) and every time i think about that era im just like "man, i would kill to make an mmorpg in that style" and that always sits at the back of my mind bc the potential design for a like, whats essentially a social video game is really fun to think about

oh Mabinogi looks SICK, it's a very good style! (tbh i am excited to play FFXI because the expac stories are very soloable now, i'm a little relieved to avoid the social aspect of FFXI unless i reach endgame 🙈)

FFXI is kinda pretty!! i think it's a very beautiful and grounded game, tho the character customization choices are kinda limited to 1 of 6 faces and maybe a different color of hair IIRC hehe

Based!!! I've been playing XI as my go-to MMO for the past few months and I've been really enjoying it!

It's great with friends, as there are so many obscurities / absurdities that it's impossible to understand everything alone.

what world are you on? if you play on Asura I'd be glad to add you as a friend sometime, when you decide to start!

I am not on a world yet since I haven't made a character!! I am trying to rope my partner into playing as well so I'm not really certain how hard it'll be to get the same world with the Gold World Pass stuff, I think for now I'll just see where I end up since I'm more interested in all of the pre-endgame stuff and I think that'll take a good chunk of time :eggbug: but if I end up on Asura I'll remember that, ty!!!

Fair!!! I'm very pre-endgame myself and just taking in the story (I like to take selfies and notes and remember character names and stuff, so I'm pretty slow wrt it all, which infuriates some people, especially those who just play for the endgame, hehe)

🤝🤝🤝 i'm trying to rope in lex bc they showed me something about how FFXI-on-Steam is a lot less involved to install and it ended up getting me instead (oops) but yeah!! yeah!!!!
