every article online feels like it's a high-school essay trying to meet the word count.

Articles / blog posts don't need to be long to be good.
I get mad when the main post content is halfway down the page.

This style of writing is ubiquitous. It's like:

How to Make a Jam Sandwich

You may be wondering... "How do I make a jam sandwich?". Well, you're in luck! In this article, we will explain to you how to make a jam sandwich!

What is a jam sandwich?

[3 paragraphs of the invention of the jam sandwich]

How do I make a jam sandwich?

[Instructions buried somewhere in filler]

You can keep your personality / humor, but don't forget why you're writing it!!

Oh, and speaking of "word counts"

I feel like that's half the reason people write articles the way they do; because they had it hammered into their brains that "you have to make it as long as possible for it to pass as half-decent"

The other half, obviously, is because of SEO needing longer pages, and managers telling journalists "It must be long so we can fit more ads in it!"

I might be assuming totally wrong, but I always thought articles like that were written via AI/with the help of AI. I mostly assumed this because of how bad the flow of the articles usually is. It takes them forever to get to the point and they start going on tangents about small, insignificant details.
