It's a lovely place, filled with laughing happy people, because they all get free articles, videos, podcasts, and games. And they never have to see an advertisement, of any sort. They wouldn't even fully understand what an advertisement was if you tried to explain it to them, and if you did get the concept across they'd be very confused as to why anyone would want such a thing. Their lives are enviable!
But in the same city, in a dank basement, sits a child in filthy rags, who must watch, read, and listen to advertisements 24/7. They have never seen a piece of content that is not sponsored or in some way trying to sell them something.
When residents of the city reach the age of maturity, they're taken to see this child, and told how the happiness of the rest of the city relies on this child watching ads to keep the average numbers up. Many sob and cry in the moment and as they go about their lives think solemnly of that child. But a few, a very few, slip away and leave the city forever.
