I'm often thinking about Robert De Niro's character in Brazil: he's a rogue heating engineer who dresses like a commando and breaks into people's homes to tactically repair their air conditioners. I think that'd be a good premise for an immersive sim since traditionally they're so interested in ducts and ventilation shafts anyway.

... I have watched that movie twice, maybe more, but I never realized this was Robert De Niro.

that was neat! technical trailblazer classic FPS dressed up in a star wars costume that nails the presentation and is notably more puzzle-focused. the combat does get repetitive very quickly though, there's about 5 enemy types and only two weapons really worth using. the short length helps.

amazed this came out a whole year before Duke Nukem 3D (and roughly, the Build Engine), it manages to implement all sorts of tricks most well-known from there. room-over-room, environmental interactivity, verticality in level design. there's even some adorably rudimentary polygonal work.

i don't think DF reaches the gameplay timelessness of other shooters of its era, you've seen the extent less than three levels in, but it's still recommended as a technological curio and some fun star warsing about. running around hearing "SET BLASTERS TO FULL!" and "YOU'RE NOT AUTHORIZED TO BE HERE!" is entertaining.
