It's almost even darker... or more haunting to imagine this landscape filled with nightmarish whatever, and you're in this very spooky place, but there is no 'anything.' Nothing out to get you. Like, you could be in the dark and see a creature or this thing come up to you, but then it walks right past you. ... You no longer possess the importance of being something that should be hurt. You become nothing.
