ok! there's been no mention of it on @staff posts for over a year, and the last thing i saw was jae saying "alt text enjoyers" will be glad to hear there was "an excuse to work on it" at least a month ago

it does not seem like "a lot of UI work" to make a tiny box that holds about 5 words into an identical but slightly longer box that could hold 10 words, which would immediately help a lot

you're truly free to think whatever you want, but this is a godawful version that's almost worse than not having an alt text interface, and to a lot of people, including me, accessibility shouldn't be something we "cut slack" about after an entire year. i appreciate you suggesting accessibility will make the website go out of business though ;)

does someone who "actually cares about these sorts of things" call screen reader users "alt text enjoyers" and say explicitly that they were waiting for "an excuse" to work on a very very very very basic accessibility feature? like, if you think so, ok.

i'm sorry, where . . . did i go for your throat? i said the existing thing is terrible (it is) and . . . that you, actually did, suggest that accessibility was something that would hurt the financial wellbeing of the site? like, what did you hope i would say, in what tone that would please you?

re: tiny and terrible: yeah especially on mobile it's so awful. Because the text box doesn't increase in size at all it's also hell trying to edit the description for typos (which are especially common on mobile)

lol omg you're not alone, it's literally a moving window!!! i think one reason we see so much super concise alt text (which is fine!!) is because people want to see it all at once. so it's limited to like 30 characters total
