I had planned to write a short review of each book, but I'm way too tired for that! If you want to hear my thoughts on any of these, feel free to hit me up in the comments.

This list also includes two books that I actually read last December, but which I've decided to include here because that's when I submitted my PhD, and diving back into recreational reading in 2022 started in earnest in December 2021. I've also excluded the seven or so books I reread for comfort, didn't seem worth tacking them on.

Books I finished in 2022:

  • Roadside Picnic by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky, translated by Olena Bormashenko, narrated by Robert Forster (read December 2021)
  • The Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin, translated by Ken Liu, narrated by Bruno Roubicek (read December 2021)
  • Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer, narrated by Carolyn McCormick
  • The Stars are Legion by Kameron Hurley, narrated by Nicole Poole and Teri Schnaubelt
  • The Raven Tower by Ann Leckie, narrated by Adjoa Andoh
  • Authority by Jeff VanderMeer, narrated by Bronson Pinchot
  • The Player of Games by Ian M Banks, narrated by Peter Kenny
  • The Scar by China Mieville, narrated by Damian Lynch
  • The Man in the High Castle by Philip K Dick, narrated by Jeff Cummings
  • The Terror by Dan Simmons, narrated by Tom Sellwood
  • Terra Nullius by Claire G Coleman, narrated by Tamala Shelton and Mark Coles Smith
  • Acceptance by Jeff VanderMeer, narrated by Bronson Pinchot
  • Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami, translated by Philip Gabriel, narrated by Sean Barrett and Oliver Le Sueur
  • Borne by Jeff VanderMeer
  • The Brothers' War by Jeff Grubb
  • Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco, translated by William Weaver

Books I started but didn’t finish (usually because the vibe didn’t line up at the time, so there’s a chance some of these will get read next year):

  • The Last Wish by Andrzej Sapkowski, translated by Danusia Stok, narrated by Peter Kenny
  • Lakewood by Megan Giddings, narrated by Adenrele Ojo
  • The Water Knife by Paolo Bacigalupi, narrated by Almarie Guerra
  • Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino, translated by William Weaver
  • Through the Arc of the Rainforest by Karen Tei Yamashita
  • Naked Lunch (The Restored Text) by William S Burroughs, edited by James Grauerholz and Barry Miles, narrated by Mark Bramhall
  • The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco, translated by William Weaver
