i feel like some people at this point think it's all very unbelievable what's going on right now but honestly everything that's happened so far matches up with my own family's experience being homeless here in the US.

i couched with my girlfriend so we could all save money but i heard how my mom and brother were living. surprise expenses if you missed any payments (and you will miss payments and get late fees), negotiating with staff, trying to estimate what you'll need to pay the next day as best you can, hotels don't sell rooms at fixed rates. having to pay a lot when it's in-season (remember easter wasn't long ago at all). and on top of that you need to pay laundromats for laundry and buy food to eat every day and if one of your possessions that you need to get stuff done with breaks you are in deep shit and that's not even getting into medical costs which are an even bigger factor now than what was going on with us. sometimes my mom would skip meals just to have enough for my brother to eat and because of two years of that she still has reduced muscle mass. and the stress of the instability can make you sick, tired, traumatized, and dishonest about how much you really need because we live in a society that shames people who need to beg. (when i asked for help on facebook once a former family friend straight up just left the comment "shameful" and nothing else)

so i can believe iris because of that, i want other people to understand this because i think if you've never experienced it before you can't really get it right away.
