so a few days ago i saw this video, demonstrating a 3d printed wallet design that i quite liked. my current wallet is a trifold black pleather abomination with a coin purse on the back. it is basically an inch thick. i bought it at a yard sale years ago to replace a wallet i had been gifted that had my name engraved on it. (it's a long story but at the time, the name on it was my deadname. now it's just my name, so it's not a problem any more).

so i quite liked N-O-D-E's design, but i found it had some deficiencies, chief among them that the cut-outs are far, far too small to actually use to extract the cards from the wallet. so i redesigned it. i've gone through a couple iterations.

the first one made the wallet way too big because of a rounding error (i'm bad at math), and made the cut-outs semicircular instead of triangle shaped, and also 15mm deep. as it turns out, they don't need to be that deep. also, due to their location right in the center, they ran up against the slit that the elastic band is fed through, which makes the back plate very weak along the middle.

the second iteration brought it back to being the size of a card, made the cut-outs slightly smaller, and moved them off center so the whole thing is stronger. it's basically at a point now that i would use it, save for a few further modifications i want to make:

the elastic i'm using has been harvested from an old halloween costume and it's super frayed, so i'll need to find the big spool of new elastic. also, the edges could be chamfered to make it easier to put the card back in. and an rfid blocking solution is in order, which is certainly the biggest hurdle. although i don't actually know if rfid blocking is like. necessary? or if it's just security theater.

i'd also like to print my final one in lavender. i think the PLA i've been using should be sufficient, it's probably better than it has a little bit of bend to it.
