and i made a mistake that caused us to lose a match we had done very well in up to that point. the move i took made complete sense to me at the time and i had no idea why my friend was upset with me in the immediate aftermath but i have now reconstructed the events on a map and figured out what must have happened.

(please now review the map)

i believed the enemy to be on the south east side of the inlet, past the hut we were in because i had been holding an angle through a small hole in the wall of the hut, facing south east. as i was doing this, my friend said something to the effect of "they're out to the left," which i thought meant they were in the trees just off to my left. but they were facing north west, and meant that the enemy was to the left of the building on the far side of the inlet from us. so when they said "let's go" and ran out the door, i assumed i was to get to the other side of the boat so as to provide cover from the inevitable advance the enemy would make on our tail as they came around the hut. but alas, my friend and i were working with different information and as i went around the prow of the boat, i was shot immediately, thus losing us the match.

that's Hunt: Showdown (2019), baby.
