Fag of the Year

I'm horrifically obsessed with Weezer.
I also like messing with decade-old mobile devices.

I'd watch these while you still can because they might not last long! Impressions of things I've watched so far:

Amphibia – More or less the same, but visually different. Sprig looks like a damn placeholder. Also, he's voiced by Thurop Van Orman! Very similar premise to the second episode. In the end preview montage thing are a bunch of scenes they ended up using for the show's opening. And there's a crazy bit where Sasha is possessed or something. I wonder if they were originally cooking something with that or if it was just meant to sort of preview the direction of the show.

Very Important House – This was a pilot from Jhonen Vasquez made in 2016. He said it was rejected for not fitting with the "current direction" which is a load of bs considering it actually fits perfectly in with the shows they did end up greenlighting. It's about a girl who lives in the Very Important House, which gives her random tasks to do that are apparently integral to saving the universe. From that description alone, a lot of other shows probably come to mind because it is very similar to them. Can't believe they passed on it, honestly. Maybe it had to do with the fact that there was a blob man literally dissolving people into skeletons multiple times? I'm not sure why kids networks keep commissioning Jhonen Vasquez to make cartoon shows.

The Owl House – There's been an animation reel of this floating around for a while, but now we know there was a pilot created adhering much closer to the show's final form. It really surprised me! Honestly, it's a huge improvement over the first episode. I'm a big fan of The Owl House, but I've always thought it had a weak start. The first episode is just ok, and it doesn't really pick up until episode five. This pilot basically solves all of those pacing problems by introducing major characters and locations right away. Amity is not only the second character introduced, but she's an exchange student in the Human Realm. When she accidentally leaves her passport behind, Luz followers her to give it back and accidentally ends up in the Demon Realm. Lilith is also introduced here, as the headmistress of the school. She's the one who has King's crown, and so they infiltrate the school to get it back. Both of them have monster forms here, and Lilith is a bat monster which is way cooler than her weird raven form. Also, witches can travel freely around rather than there being one portal, but they don't like humans doing it. There were enough changes that I could tell the story would have ended up being completely different, but from this one pilot it kind of seemed more interesting. Disney meddling, perhaps? Apparently, they had a bit of a tight leash during season one.

Very Important House looks like it could've been something really cool. It's tone reminds me of something, but I can't quite place it. Like a slightly more hyper Adventure Time? Not sure. That was probably the last cartoon I paid any attention to, even though I've had my interest in Gravity Falls and Steven Universe.

Also, that was totally Arin Hanson at the end there lol.

EDIT: I actually bothered archiving it jic.
