this sucks ass, don't use the apple store to support your favorite creators, subscribe or resubscribe directly through your browser
this also affects supporters because patreon will be dynamically raising prices on ios to offset fees. so it will literally be more expensive. no one wins.
expect all other processors with ios apps to be affected if they haven't been yet.

buried in there is that Patreon will also force every creator to their Subscription billing (you're charged on the date you sign up) instead of the old system (you're charged on the first of every month) by November 2025 because it is in conflict with how the iOS app operates wrt these policies and i'm very annoyed! i don't want the new system, the old system works for me because of how i run my shit.
deeply annoyed that these sites constantly shift this aggressively and i just can't do shit about it. at least this is apple's fault primarily this time but fuck, man. i'm so tired.
anyway patreon should add a feature that lets ios users see a pop up that says THERES NO 30% FEE ON DESKTOP if they try to sub through the app forgot you can't do this
my actual wish is for patreon to just turn the iOS app into browse-only. just wholesale remove the ability to subscribe through there. if there are iOS app users, they know what patreon is, they know how the service operates, and they are likely smart enough to open a browser afterwards and sign up there. and if not, well, i'd rather eat that loss than let apple take 30% in either option.
but i also know patreon will not do this because they are not a Big Service. no matter the option i pick, patreon takes a cut from subscriptions through iOS and they're not going to just remove a vector of income to do some overall good for creators and its users. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
they're holding a Q&A in their Patreon Creator discord rn and they've clarified some stuff that is mostly already answered by their posts. Someone asked for clarification on what they mean by "the iOS app is the number one platform for fan engagement for Patreon" because they have presented 0 data to that fact. Calls for any kind of metrics, data, or proof that that's the case hasn't been provided at all, but it's not really stopped them from repeating the phrase every time they need a reason to justify doing something with the iOS app instead of, like, removing a feature or doing something that would make them less money.
