this has so far been one of my most consistent training journals to date, and it's probably because the audience here is small enough that i feel like i can write whatever i want, but 'curated' enough that people i respect might read this stuff and think it's neat. i've tried this kind of thing before, but when i do it in local notes docs or whatever i fall off, and i think it's because i need it to be visible, if perhaps barely.
i try to keep things light on wednesdays bc REV2SDAY usually takes a lot out of me. today i think i talked too much without drinking water (talking too much has been a work hazard for me over the past year or so) and it left my throat feeling a little sore.
sore throat got me worried about COVID. i'm at a pretty low risk for COVID -- the only thing i've left my house for in the last few weeks have been walks around the block and a massage (masked) but i decided it was better to not work out just in case. maybe i'll try to get that lifting in on friday if i'm feeling better.
i did get to my +R practice though, and it felt great. hitting my combos and FRCs pretty well, practiced some johnny-specific combos because he's got some real shit situations where chipp's go-to combo routes will just fail to work properly if i'm too close, so i had to practice the spacing that gets them to work. luckily, i ran into a johnny in quick match afterwards and got to practice the routes. worked great!
this is actually kind of rare -- practicing for character-specific matchups is tricky because it is an important part of FG growth, but it's not always easy to go from training mode to practicing against a live opponent in that session because the odds that you're going to find that specific MU in quick play are low. i was drilling some Ramlethal matchup stuff for Xrd before Evo to prepare for a strong Ram in my pool, ended up continuing some of the practice after Evo because i recognize it's a matchup I don't know that well (even though it's in Chipp's favor), and had the good luck to run into another strong Ram in R2D last night and win.
moments like these, where the benefits of practice are felt in the same session, are the kind of thing that make me feel that sense of wonder about what humans can do.
turns out tomorrow's plans (AM kickboxing, PM WNF+R, maybe games with Bee) are boned because of Work Stuff but i might end up getting some games in at the office. honestly more concerned with the next two days of Work Stuff rn but i'm sure i'll find the time to mash.
