I kinda wish I could add Alt Text to actual text, meow. I feel like Content and Presentation have always been separate, but intertwined, things, and the ability to treat them as such in text would allow people to express themselves more freely without harming communication.

you can do that using ARIA! That's like, exactly what ARIA is for. ARIA is a part of html that tells browsers how to interpret/change content to be accessible for people with disabilities.

so, let's say I want to write my name where each letter is all separated into <span>s that are individually animated or styled in some way.

in reply to @phi's post:

i'm not sure if it's stripped but aria-label on a span may work?

aria-label is intended for use on interactive elements, or elements made to be interactive via other ARIA declarations, when there is no appropriate text visible in the DOM that could be referenced as a label

it might not be intended for spans i guess

hey phi, just letting you know I got around to updating my reply to this. I'm still not actually sure whether my original recommendation would work or not. I might keep researching it because it FEELS like there should be a better solution to this considering how common issues around things like decorative fonts or alt3nerative character choices would be well addressed by, basically, being able to add "alt text" to text haha

Thank u for the update, meow. Just learning about aria was already big, hehe. I will experiment around with stuff and see what works for the various kinds of things I want to make. (it's my sleepy time so I will rechost your updated version tomoffow, hehe. will prolly not hav anythink to add but wanf to give a good read without sleepy eyes)

:] Thanks! Your share of the post was totally how this post came up for me haha. Your idea for using the title attribute for tooltips is also useful, since that could let people make even the most unreadable text readable for sighted people too. IDK if/how tooltips show up on mobile though? lol always so many things to consider
