@peek and I, through the wisdom of his autocorrect, have been talking about Fromsoft 3D Soldier.

So far we've remembered that it plays like a combination of Arma, King's Field, and Slaves to Armok: God of Blood. It was the first comprehensive soldier simulator of its kind, infamous for its punishing difficulty and in-depth gameplay. You create a soldier and follow him from recruitment to his inevitable death.

Even if you survive the war, get injured enough to be sent home, or get put on desk duty, you must still deal with physical and mental trauma, fill out tremendous amounts of paperwork, and supervise your soldier's body. The latter includes, famously, managing dioxin levels in individual organs accumulated during the extended "burn pit" sequences.

The sub-sub-subcontracted developers were based in Eastern Europe, and "all look like that one soldier in the trenches of Verdun."

everyone tries a cock build but it falls apart immediately the very first time you get into combat, for obvious reasons

the equip screen is like 'Mechwarrior, you can remove points from all the tendons and muscles in all your arms and torso and put it into just your legs (the recommended scout build) or become the berserker archetype by putting all your biceps into your dominant arm

Fun fact: many mammals have a baculum (boner bone); some scientists theorize that apes do not because they're too smart: they'd go right for the dick in even minor territorial posturing-fights, doing terrible, terrible damage. Apes with smaller baculums tended to walk away from those engagements, er, more fit to reproduce.
