it IS!! it's extremely lovely... I love anything where characters' motivations and doubts are delved into and explored over time... The art is really memorable too. I love the roundness of the faces, and the way the panels start to get brighter and brighter with lights whenever the two talk

YES, Our Dreams At Dusk has so many quiet, sad smiles (and then some of the most explosively beautiful art I've seen of people coming to understand their own queerness)?

I've really enjoyed Takako Shimura's work for the same reason! It's pretty understated a lot of the time, but she really draws some beautifully sad and serene scenes of people where the emotion rings through totally quiet panels

ooh I gotta read her stuff too... the thing that really fucking Got Me about our dreams at dusk was how it made special note of the fact that like... not everybody's internality is gonna be there for you to see? like people aren't puzzleboxes to be solved + you can still play a big role in each other's lives without Figuring Them Out. it's a really mature perspective on the social dynamics of queer community + it particularly stands out in contrast against some well-intentioned but clumsy works by cishet people lmao

Yea!! I really resonated with the part where the MC tries to connect with the youngest visitor to the club, and how it goes wrong... It feels very human, a portrayal of how others have so much unsolvable complexity, like you said. I haven't seen that portrayed often in any kind of media, honestly.
