I use outdated technology just for fun, listen to crappy music, and watch a lot of horror movies. Expect posts about These Things. I talk a lot.

I don't know why, but this immediately made me think of the best possible solution.

Have all your inputs lined up on the lower back of the monitor, and then have easily felt buttons right at the base of the monitor, lining up with each input, and each having a distinct pattern on them. one dash for HDMI 1, two dashes for HDMI 2, a circle for DisplayPort 1, two circles for DisplayPort 2, and so on. Just reach under, feel for the right markings, and click to immediately switch inputs. Kind of like a KDM...

Oh god now I'm imagining a monitor with a KDM built in. You connect all your peripherals to the monitor and as you switch inputs it changes all your inputs... Oh god that product is too perfect...

What you need is an HP monitor. 2 hdmi inputs, no audio out (or speakers), and when you turn off an input before changing to the other, the monitor crashes. Like, black screen, unresponsive for 5 minutes, will not accept anything. Even unplugging it doesn't fix it. You just gotta wait for it to decide it's ready for your bullshit again.
